I can’t believe I’m blogging about discipline already. Well, here it is…discipline is a meaningless word that has no bearing on my son’s life. It simply doesn’t work and my boy is somewhere between a baby and a toddler and its a little rough.
I’m not rocking back and forth in the corner or anything, I’m just exhausted. Forget dieting; I’ve lost more weight chasing my son around the house in the last week than I have in a month of dieting. I think my son is mainlining caffeine in his sippy cup because I can’t keep up with him.
Am I that old really?
He just never seems to stop. From the second he wakes up until he finally crashes in his crib, Baby Nik is hyper curious. I’m stealing time for myself when I can and when I say time for myself I mean any time that I’m not chasing my baby.
I hear the phrase “into everything” a lot from other parents to describe that time when your baby discovers the rest of the world around him. He becomes fascinated by the television, the microwave, the cat’s tail and doing whatever action is reasonable and for safety and hygiene reasons prefaced by the words “No Nikolai Stop.”
Yes I know bad parent me but when my son is throwing everything we own into the garbage, filling his toy box with empty coffee cups stolen from the table and squishing cold French fries in every nook and cranny in the room, “no” and “stop” are naturally the first things that come to mind.
Thing is, I don’t why I say them because they just sound like “challenge me” to my 13 month old “baby.” Didn’t you know that saying no means your child should immediately proceed to take the toilet water soaked oil painting he used to play in the toilet bowl this morning and use it to push a new assortment of household essentials further into the toilet drain pipe?
This time the husband left the toilet seat unlatched.
Urgh. All this potty talk but really dirty diapers, crazy children and the slight sense of unreality seems to be part and parcel of being a parent right?
I gotta think of something else. Any ideas?
