Getting Pregnant: Wanting a Baby Real Bad

For many women conceiving is a lot harder than it sounds. My sister gets pregnant if you look at her funny.  A friend of mine has been trying for seven years without any luck. Most of us fall somewhere in between. I met a young woman yesterday who is recently married and a little old school. All she wants is a big family as soon as possible. Good for her I say. Problem is she can’t seem to conceive. It made me think of some of the advice I was given when trying to get pregnant and so yes, I thought I’d share.

Relax and try not to stress about getting pregnant. I know this is easier said than done. Stop buying pregnancy tests every month or counting days or having sex every five minutes. All this does is make you anxious and what baby wants to be conceived in a stressed out womb. Just breathe.

Try to stay positive. After months of regular periods and no morning sickness, it can start to get depressing. The road to conception isn’t easy for a large majority of women. Remember that. The healthy quick pregnancy is the minority result. You are not alone. Stay optimistic and cheerful. Happy mommies make happy babies.

Eat well and don’t forget the important vitamins. Preparing your body for conception is important. Make sure you get enough B vitamins, fiber and folic acid. Cereal is a great source of these nutrients so don’t skimp on a healthy breakfast. Drink plenty of water and eat a nutritious balanced diet to create the perfect shelter for your yet to be conceived child.

Quit smoking now. If you smoke don’t worry you are not alone. The majority of smokers, especially new smokers, are women. But waiting until you get pregnant to quit smoking is a big mistake. Smoking decreases the oxygen in your blood making a healthy conception that much harder. Quit smoking and change your diet.

Learn to live with the fact that it may never happen. Yes this sounds kinda mean but it’s the truth. Although women are physically built for having babies it doesn’t mean all of us will or all of us are meant to however much we may want to. I mean someone has to adopt all those cute little unwanted babies out there right? And anyway coming to terms with not conceiving is often the best way to get pregnant.

After two failed pregnancies and two years of trying to conceive, I had gotten to a place of giving up on the dream. I accepted that maybe for me, it wasn’t going to happen. I loved being an aunt and maybe that was it for me. But I couldn’t let it go. One day I came home with a leaflet about foster care. If I couldn’t have my own, maybe it was time to help someone else with their child.

The next day I realized my period was late, took a test and discovered I was pregnant with my giant healthy baby boy who is my everything.

You just never know what will happen so don’t give up. What will be will be.
