Well this weekend was nothing if not eventful. I’m 18 weeks pregnant and feel like weight is just gravitating towards me. But I’m not eating a lot as there is nothing I fancy eating. Usually when I’m pregnant I have pretty strong cravings but this time not really at all. Worrying about not being able to feel significant movement with the baby wasn’t helping my appetite either.
Saturday night I gave up trying to find some food I wanted to eat and just found some food. I pulled a box of microwave lentil curry out of the back of the pantry. Well, it was something different, healthy and easy to make so I went for it. I added a little brown rice as a side dish and started munching. A few minutes later my stomach lurched.
For a moment I thought I was going to be sick. This was a food I hadn’t eaten during the pregnancy and maybe my body was about to reject it all over the rug. But no, my stomach lurched again and I felt a little poke on my left side. It was the baby! Finally he/she was making their presence known. I can only presume it was in support of the lentil curry as the movement became more and more distinct as I ate (which is weird eating while your tummy is moving around).
I finally finished and got up to move and felt a flip. This is what I call the quickening. That very distinct, no mistake about it, baby’s jumping around in there flipping sensation. It was awesome. I stood still one hand on my empty dinner bowl the other on my stomach not wanting to miss a second. For the rest of the evening I enjoyed feeling the baby moving. Nik even got in on the action and held my tummy and pretended to feel the baby move. It was just a nice evening.
So know I’m really starting to feel like my child is growing and I’m going to be someone else’s mom rather than Nik’s mom who is pregnant. My child is growing inside me, getting stronger every day and I know in a few months I’ll have two kids. Its crazy wonderful but totally exhausting. Well time to go buy some more curried lentils.
